PokerStars EPT London – Day 2 report

No one really expected the money bubble to burst on day 2 of the
PokerStars EPT’s record-setting London Main Event. With 380 players belying up to the tables at the beginning of the day and with the money bubble set for 128th place, it was indeed the reasonable thing to assume that the bubble would only burst on day 3, but it didn’t even take 6 blind levels for the crucial milestone to be reached. Eoin O’Dea, Donnacha O’Dea’s son will certainly remember this
poker tournament as he was the one who had to settle for the dubious and utterly undesirable position of the bubble boy.
With 127 players remaining to do battle on Day 3 of the event, it was David Vamplew who managed to amass the largest stack of chips. Vamplew’s massive 1.1 million chip stack was largely due to a huge pot he won right before the money bubble burst. In a classic perfect hand setup, Vamplew had pocket 9s on a flop of 9,2,2 while one of his opponents had A,2.
Obviously, the number of Day 2 casualties was quite impressive, but with all that, some of the best known “name” pros have managed to stay in contention.
Phil Ivey has built a stack of 289k chips, which places him within the top 25. Daniel Negreanu will be back for Day 3 too, although the 66k stack his currently riding will probably need tons of tender loving care to take him as far as he’d presumably like to go.
Arnaud Mattern, Jake Cody and Kevin Stani also made it into the money. Alex Kravchenko will start Day 3 in 6th place, with a stack of 527k chips.
The list of casualties was at least as impressive as that of the survivors though. Sam Trickett, Liv Boeree, Barry Greenstein and Allen Cunningham all found the path to the rail.
