Pokerstars EPT London – pros closing in on the kill

Because the money bubble had burst the previous day, day 3 of the
PokerStars EPT’s London Main Event started with all 127 returning players in the money. With the minimum payout locked up, the survivors tore into each other with dedication: at the end of the day, only 24 of the 127 starters were still alive, looking to make it to the £900 payday that the winner of the event would indulge in.
Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and a whole bunch of other similar caliber “name” pros were present at the tables at kick-off. At the end of the day, only two of these elite players would still be around. Joe Hachem, winner of the 2005
WSOP’s Main Event, sat in 15th place with a stack of 885k chips. Looking to win an
EPT title to add to his trophy case (which already includes a WSOP and a WPT one) Hachem would become just the third man to win a Triple Crown (WSOP, WPT and EPT titles) in case he went all the way in this poker tournament.
The other name pro still in contention was John Juanda. The Full Tilt pro has won several WSOP bracelets and he won the WSOPE’s Main Event a couple of years ago too.
At the end of day 3, Juanda was slightly better positioned for a deep run than Hachem: his stack of 1.2 million chips earned him 10th place on the provisional leader board.
The provisional chip leader, Chance Kornuth can be considered something of a poker celebrity too: he won his first WSOP bracelet during this year’s Series, in a PLO event, which makes him poker royalty too despite his youth.
Kornuth is sitting on a stack of 2.3 million chips. Per Ummer is second, with 1.7 million.
