PokerStars EPT Prague – Day 1A Report

The first day 1 flight of the EPT’s Prague Main Event saw 234 players belly up to the tables, including Bryn Kenney, who was just eliminated from the WPT’s Prague Main Event. 140 players survived the day, among them chip leader Vedzizhev Beslan, who managed to build a stack of 132.2k chips.
Team PokerStars pro was well represented: Theo Jorgensen, Richard Toth, Toni Judet, Martin Sztaszko and Marcin Horecki all played. The majority of the PokerStars pros managed to advance to day 2 too: only Horecki and Judet were left behind.
Eoghan O’Dea, Chris Moorman and Steve O’Dwyer played too, fresh off their WPT Main Event bids. They all advanced, possibly on their way to yet another deep finish. The going wasn’t at all easy for them though. O’Dea got thoroughly crippled during the early going in a perfect hand: he got his chips into the middle holding a straight, and he was called by Raffaele Gerbi, who had a two pair. Gerbi proceeded to make a full house to take the pot. O’Dea battled back though, and eventually, he finished with 50.8k chips after a couple of double-ups.

The highlight of the day was the presence of Gus Hansen. The Great Dane had taken a long break from the green felt after his Full Tilt Poker winning spree came to a screeching halt on account of the Black Friday events. Whether or not he managed to recover any money from FTP is anyone’s guess, but he obviously thought it worth his while to buy into the EPT Prague Main Event. He came to the table with a banana and a bible, which he kept reading for most of the day. Overall, his playing style was not even reminiscent of his old loose-cannon ways. He didn’t cause a lot of big ripples and he sneaked into day 2 under the radar, in possession of a stack of 52.6k chips.
Day 1A has apparently yielded a record-breaking field for the event and organizers expect nothing less from the second day 1 flight either.
