PokerStars EPT Prague – Day 2 report

254 poker players weren’t able to enjoy the winter wonderland that settled over Prague on day 2 of the PokerStars EPT’s Main Event, because they were busy playing poker in the basement of the Hilton. At the end of the day, after 6 levels of play, only 93 of these guys were still standing, ready to have their chips bagged to return to the tables on day 3. With the money bubble set for 80th place, the early day 3 attrition will be key in deciding who goes home with dough and who does with nothing but the proverbial wooden spoon to show.

Dirk Richter was the one who managed to clinch the chip lead at the end of day 1b. He started Day 2 with a stack of 296k chips, by far the largest in the poker tournament. Deep-stacked play seemed to suit him just fine. Using his stack as a weapon, he bullied players left and right all day and never once let the reins out of his hands. He finished with 593k chips, retaining the leader’s position. He wasn’t the only one to log a phenomenal day 2 run though. Welshman Roberto Romanello started the day on a decent stack as well, and at the end of it he had 566k chips, which put him into second place, not far behind the leader.

The EPT’s Vilamoura champion, Toby Lewis had his ups and downs so to speak. He started the day on a medium stack, but within a few hands he found himself fighting for his tournament life. He bounced right back into contention then fell all the way to 20k chips again. He eventually finished with 93.5k.
Team PokerStars pros Richard Toth, Liv Boeree and Theo Jorgensen all failed to make it through the day.
