PokerStars EPT Prague - Day 3 report

The third day of the PokerStars EPT Prague main event lasted for about eight hours and it saw the surviving field of 93 whittled down to a mere 23 at the end of the action. The money bubble was set for 80th place, which meant that despite their efforts to make it this far, 13 players would walk home with the proverbial wooden spoon. Due to the high quality of the field, the bubble boy was a huge name. Dominik Nitsche finished 81st, to thus become the last player to leave the tables empty-handed.

Several other “name” players were forced to head home without a reward too. Toby Lewis was one of these guys. Struggling with a short stack, he picked up an As, Js and decided to take his tournament life on it. Unfortunately for him, Melanie Wiesner had picked up pocket Queens, and promptly made the call with the superior starting hand. As the field dropped to 81, the tournament director called for hand by hand play.
Nitsche got aggressive on a pair of eights he had picked up, but he was called by Sami Souleiman, who had pocket tens. The board was quite meaningless and preserved Souleiman’s initial advantage, sending the German home and landing everyone else in the money.

When the chips got bagged for day 4, Kevin MacPhee had the biggest stack weighing in at 2,096,000 chips. MacPhee shot to the chip lead in a hand against start of the day chip leader Dirk Richter. MacPhee had top pair against a completely empty bluff by Richter.
Jan Bendik finished the day second in chips. Having amassed a stack of 1,846,000, he is hot on the chip leader's heels.
Team PokerStars Pro Martin Horecki was responsible for a double elimination which practically brought the day to an end. After some give and take, Ion Pavel eliminated Helen Prager in virtual overtime to set the number of survivors to 23.
