PokerStars EPT Vilamoura – Day 2 report

The second day of the PokerStars European Poker Tour’s Vilamoura Main Event saw 177 players return to action from the two day 1 flights. The overall chip leader at the beginning of the day was Ljubomir Josipovic, who had amassed a larger stack than Day 1B chip leader Jeff Sarwer. Most of those chips came from Ludovic Lacay, whom the Austrian managed to send to the rail on Day 1A.
Josipvic did well on day 2 too. He kept adding to his stack, and even though Jeff Sarwer and a couple of others overtook him stacks-wise, he finished in 4th place at the end of the day.

Even though many of the Team PokerStars members were bounced on Day 1, some of them were still in contention and busy building their stacks. One of the PokerStars players was Ruben Visser. In the early stages of Day 2 action, Visser got into a tussle with Andy Black and chipped him up nicely. He got his revenge on the very last hand though: Black got all in holding 9,10 and Visser called him with A,K. That move landed Visser among the large-stacks and sent Black straight to the bottom, leaving him the official short-stack for Day 3.

Praz Bansi did well on Day 1, but he found his way to the rail very early on Day 2. Joining the list of early casualties were Katja Thater, Sami Kelopuro and Chad Brown. Shaun Deeb and JP Kelly hung on for longer, though eventually they ended up on the scrap heap too.

Matthew Nieberg had quite a rollercoaster of a day. He managed to build up a huge chip lead at first, and at one point he had twice as many chips as the nearest competitor. He proceeded to squander all his ammo though. He kept losing pots, till he eventually picked up a boat he decided to shove all-in on. Once the streak of bad luck got underway though, there was no stopping it. Nieberg got called by Martin Wendt who had a bigger boat then his and was promptly bounced.

The Day 2 chip lead ended up in Jeff Sarwer’s possession, after he managed to bounce none other than Shaun Deeb to claim the lead on the very last level of the day.
