PokerStars Launches MicroMillions

Nowadays it seems like every decently prize-pooled event features a massive buy-in that recreational players and small-stakes grinders just cannot afford to cough up. Thus far, these player categories have pretty much been left out in the cold tournament-wise, but that’s about to change.
PokerStars have just announced the launching of their MicroMillions Series, which will target exactly those who do not play poker for a living. The Series, which runs from the middle of next month till the 25th, will feature events to which buy-ins will cost as little as 11 cents. As every respectable tournament series, the MicroMillions will feature a Main Event as well, to which the buy-in will cost $22 and which will feature a $1million guaranteed prize-pool. Although the buy-ins are definitely tailored for recreational players, the generous prize-pools are guaranteed to attract hardcore grinders and some poker pros as well.
The MicroMillions is slated to last for 11 days, during which there will be plenty of opportunities for players to grab some of the guaranteed prizes. As a matter of fact, tournaments will pretty much run around the clock during the 11 days. There will be a $1 buy-in event, which features a guaranteed prize-pool of $100k. There will also be several $2, $5, $3, $4, $8 and $10 events too. The MicroMillions is expected to award prizes totaling a massive $5 million.
Players will be able to match skills in a large variety of events over several poker variants. There will be Holdem, PLO and Omaha Hi/Lo events, but Stud and Draw shall also be featured.
According to Team PokerStars pro Lex Veldhuis, the MicroMillions is just about the best thing that can happen to a recreational player. People limited by the size of their bankrolls never seem to be able to get a taste of the real excitement, the kind that only happens in large-scale tournaments. The MicroMillions will finally give these folks the golden ticket too, so they can feel like true poker pros, at least for 11 days.
