PokerStars Launches Mobile Poker Client

PokerStars Mobile Poker has just been launched according to many of the online poker news outlets. These same sources hail the launch as that of the very first PokerStars mobile client, but word has it that there already is a mobile client which doesn’t really get any traffic. This app seems to be in the testing stages too, as it has only been released to Italian poker players who can download it in Italy’s iTunes store. Currently, only Italian players with registered iTunes accounts can get the app.
The features of the app have pretty much been made public as well. Apparently, play money games will be supported. There will be a chat feature, cash games and tournaments with hundreds of thousands of players involved in the action. Multi tabling will be supported as well and players will be offered access to tutorials, guides and FAQs. The lobby will feature a filter function to make it easier for players to locate the games/tables they want to play. PokerStars’ mobile players will be able to play
Texas Holdem, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo too. The app will be made available in a variety of languages, among which English, Russian, Italian, German, French and Spanish.
PokerStars has long been rumored to be working on a mobile app. The company acquired Cecure Gaming – a company which designed and operated mobile casino and mobile poker games – in 2009. The strategic move has apparently now yielded a palpable result in the shape of the first modern and fully functional Pokerstars mobile poker client.
Not much is currently known about the mobile online poker market. Cake Poker are not keen to share their data and the security and acceptability issues linger.
With this move, PokerStars has yet again shown the kind of forward thinking ability that not many of its competitors have proven capable of. Whether or not the mobile poker market is a lucrative one, PokerStars’ foray into the market is most certainly the most serious one ever attempted.
