PokerStars NAPT Mohegan Sun – Day 3 report

The PokerStars sponsored North American Poker Tour’s 3rd day was set to be a long and tedious affair, but fortunately for the participants (especially for those who didn’t get bounced) that was not the case. Vanessa Selbst and Scott Seiver took the reins of the action early on, and in only 6 and a half levels of play, they decimated the field, right down to the final 24 – the target set for the day.
A total of 125 players bellied up to the tables at the beginning of Day 3. Selbst held a pretty solid stack of chips: at 542,600, she was third in chips. Swinging her large stack masterfully, she pressed on and took the fight to each and every one of her opponents, eliminating one contender after another.
Her relentless aggression resulted in several attempts by various opponents to keep her honest. One such attempt was Vincent Rubianes’, who picked up a pair of Js and decided to make a stand with them. The money went all-in on a board of 10,A,6,8 and to his horror, Rubianes saw Selbst table a pair of tens for the flopped set against his pocket Js.
The other scourge of the
poker tournament was Scott Seiver. His rise to the top was even more spectacular than that of Selbst. Seiver started the day as one of the short-stacks. He cashed in nicely on a few early do or die moves through, and soon found himself in contention. The key hand for him was one against Lars Bonding in which he rivered a boat to take his stack to 675,000 chips. There was no turning back for him from that point on, and he eventually ended the day with 2,241,000 chips, only about 200k shy of the pack-leading Selbst’s stack.
Jordan Morgan had finished day 2 in the chip lead. He had a pretty good day 3 too, and he finished up with a healthy stack to give himself a nice chance for a deep run on Day 4.
Peter Jetten and team
PokerStars’ Vanessa Rousso survived the day too. Phil Ivey on the other hand wasn’t that lucky. He managed to get his act going early in the day, but he hit rock bottom in 29th place, to the disappointment of the railbirds and media representatives.
