PokerStars WPT Five Diamond World Poker classic – Day 2

The PokerStars WPT Five Diamond Classic’s second day of action at the Bellagio saw as star studded a lineup as ever. Obviously, the very cream of the live and online poker world descended on the Bellagio for this last chance to score a big cash in 2009.
With so many top class players crowded into a room, it was inevitable that some tables would be loaded almost exclusively with “name” players. Such “tables of death” were tables 58, 63 and the one where Matt Stout sat with Carlos Mortensen, Kenna James and James Mackey.
Table 58 was where Tom Dwan was, together with Yevgeniy Timoshenko, David Chiu, John Juanda and Todd Terry. Eli Elezra shared tables with the Living Legend Doyle Brunson, Kevin Schaffel (from this year’s November Nine), Jamie Rosen and Mike McClain.

6 players had excellent runs on day 2 of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Steven Landfish, the one to end up with the chip lead at the end of the day, was one of them. Landfish amassed a stack of 385,900 chips, but Brent Hanks remained close on his tail, having garnered only 2,900 chips less.
Sorel Mizzi, Matt Waxman , Chad Batista and Toto Leonidas round up to the top 6.
Antonio Esfandiari who’d finished day 1 close to the top, survived the day on a healthy stack too.
Though the poker tournament had begun the previous day, the registration was only closed on day two. No fewer than 37 players decided to take advantage of the late check-in and thus Eli Elezra, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow, Howard Lederer, Tom Dwan and Chris Ferguson all arrived late. The addition of the 37 players swelled the official starting field to 329.
For some of these guys, the late check-in failed to yield any dividends. Elezra for instance was bounced soon after he sat down, together with Shaun Deeb and Nenad Medic.
Sorel Mizzi scored the biggest pot of the day when his pocket Qs cracked Tommy Vedes’ pocket rockets for a monster pot that turned Mizzi into an instant front-runner.
Day 3 of the PokerStars sponsored tournament will see fewer than 130 players belly up to the tables in pursuit of the title.
