The 8th day of the 2012 SCOOP at
PokerStars saw Viktor Blom position himself for yet another potential title run. Day 8 was basically a set-the-stage day, as it set up no fewer than 15 winners to be decided on Day 9. PokerStars’ own Viktor Blom and Shaun Deeb have both picked up two titles thus far at the SCOOP and they’re both aiming to continue that run. They are positioned 5th and 6th respectively in Event #20-H, as only 53 players will return to play down to a winner on Day 9. Another notable who is in a positively sweet spot for a nice day 9 run is Stefan Huber, who is the chip leader in event #21-H.
The $2k NL Holdem event (offering a $750k guarantee) in which Blom and Deeb managed to make the top 6, saw a total of 782 entrants, competing for a prize-pool of $1,564,000. It took the field about 6 hours to play down to the final 250. At that stage, Brian England and David Emmons had the top spots on the provisional leader board. Viktor Blom was already within the top 20 then, together with fellow pro Ivan Demidov.
As the action rolled on, both Demidov and Blom managed to break past the 100k chip mark. They were sitting right next to each other, but they successfully avoided confrontation. Shaun Deeb appeared in the top ranks too, behind a stack of 170k chips no less, enough to give him second place at that stage.
Blom began losing ground at one point, but fortunately for him, he was moved to another table, where Jonathan Duhamel also played. He managed to find some traction there, so eventually, he ended up in 6th place, with a stack of 253k chips. Deeb finished the day in 5th, with 270k chips. The chip leader is Ken Smaron, who managed to build a monster-stack of 419.6k chips.
