The Hall of Fame deliberations have finally come to an end and we're happy to reveal that Mike Sexton is to be the latest addition to the prestigious list.
It's been a long process but the verdict is in. From the 9 candidates we reported as being recommended for the Poker Hall of Fame the committee has come to a conclusion, and that conclusion is Mike Sexton.
Mr Sexton will be the 38th member of the Hall of Fame, 16 of which, including him, are still alive. The decision to put Mike Sexton on the illustrious wall above other very popular candidates for example Phil Ivey of Full Tilt Poker came down to the staggering statistics that weigh in behind him. Sexton has earned over 40 WSOP cash finishes as well as a WSOP Tournament of Champions and a WSOP bracelet. In total Sexton has won nearly 4 million dollars in poker winnings, however his contribution to the poker world far exceeds his personal wins.
Mike Sexton has been a regular in the poker world for the best part of 30 years over which time he has promoted the sport, been its public face and even become a poker ambassador for example in his role for the online poker site Party Poker. In fact due to his role as "ambassador" Sexton has even forfeited being able to play in several online and offline tournaments; just one of many proofs of making a staggering contribution to the development of the sport of poker.
We wish Mike Sexton a hearty congratulations on a well earned honour as he takes his place along with such greats as Johnny Moss, Doyle Brunson, and more recently Phil Hellmuth, Dewey Tomko, and T. J. Cloutier.
