Summer WSOP Action is Over

The bulk of the 2011 WSOP is behind us, and looking back one can barely believe that the nearly two months of action and drama that we’ve pretty much gotten used to, will be missing from our lives. The 42nd edition of the WSOP certainly did not disappoint in any respect. The action was definitely there. There was plenty of drama too and a cast of colorful characters who made it all interesting, emerged as well.
Phil Ivey didn’t take part in this year’s Series, as he made the early headlines by boycotting it. He had a conflict with
Full Tilt Poker, the site he had represented for the last few years, in the wake of the Black Friday indictments.
As soon as the action kicked off though, the whole Phil Ivey incident faded into the backdrop. Phil Hellmuth was one of the people who stole the show when it came down to playing. Hellmuth, the WSOP bracelet record holder with 11 pieces of bling, had had a tough time
WSOP-wise and he came into this year’s series riding a rather intimidating dry spell. He flung all that out the window though and scored no fewer than 3 second places. While he did fail to grab his 12 bracelet, he put in an impressive enough effort to lock up the second place in the Player of the Year race too.
The player who will probably win that race was Ben Lamb. Lamb must’ve put in one of the most impressive WSOP performances of all time. He started out by finishing runner-up in the $3k PLO event. He then won the $10k PLO Championship event, went on to make the final table of the $50k Players’ Championship event and finished deep in the $10k NL Holdem Six-Max Championship event.
To top it all off, he has now made the final table of the Main Event and he’ll be back in November to entertain us some more.
