SuperStar Showdown kicks off – Haxton in the black

The first-ever edition of the Superstar Showdown kicked off at PokerStars on Sunday. The durrrr challenge-like series consist of short 2500 hand sessions between PokerStars’s newly acquired in-house pro, Isildur1 and a challenger. The first challenger was none other than Isaac Haxton, a NL Holdem specialist, who managed to win the very first leg of the series, generating a profit of over $41,000 at the end of the 2500 hands.
Isildur1 is known to be a no limit Holdem specialist himself, and railbirds knew that as long as he managed to keep the action on the no limit Holdem tables, he would prove to be a real threat to the opposition.
It turned out though that Haxton was an even bigger threat this time around.

Isildur1 started out well, taking a huge pot off Haxton, when his Kc, 10c hit a flush on the river of a hand which saw plenty of money going into the pot beforehand.
A few hands later however all that got tossed out the window when Isildur1’s A,Q got slammed into Haxton’s pocket kings.
Isildur1 jumped right back into the lead when his flopped set of threes held up against Haxton’s A,Q on an Ace-high board.
Things were pretty even for a while and the give-and-take continued right up to a point when Haxton seemed to take over. He started raking in one pot after the other, some of them decided only by his superior kicker.

The session ended with a bang: a monster pot landed in Haxton’s pockets, when his K, 9 made the same two pair as the Swede’s J,9 but outkicked him yet again.
After the first Superstar Showdown session, railbirds claimed that Isildur1had pretty much run his PokerStars bankroll ashore. One thing is certain though: the streaky Swede will be back for the second round of the Superstar Showdown. Against whom he'll play is not yet known though.
