The Chino Rheem Story – Part 1

David “Chino” Rheem has hogged a lot of poker spotlight lately, mainly thanks to his $1 million EPL Main Event win, which is however only the latest addition to his live tournament cash tally. Rheem had amassed $4.7 million in career tournament earnings, and that was before he took down the cool mil for his EPL win. Those who don’t know Rheem particularly well, may assume that he’s one hell of a fella based on those results and he probably is indeed one hell of a player, but apparently, for many in the live poker community, he’s much more than that: he’s also a scammer, a swindler and one of those people who can seemingly get away with everything without drawing any kind of consequences.
Rheem’s reputation suffered the first public blow a few days ago when fellow poker pro Will Molson posted a thread on one of the popular poker forums regarding an alleged scam Rheem had pulled on him.

According to Molson, he agreed to lend Rheem $20k through a PokerStars transfer a while ago. When the transfer was made, he saw that he had sent $40k by mistake. Rheem didn’t say anything of course, he just pocketed the money and went about his business. Rheem had allegedly used to money to buy into an EPT 2010 London Event, in which he finished third and took down $150k. He never bothered repaying Molson though. Molson pestered him about the money for a while, but eventually came to the realization that Rheem had never intended to repay him, therefore there wasn’t much point in hoping to ever see the money again.

Even though he has a rather stellar reputation at the green felt, Molson’s forum accusations would mean little in the way of incriminating Rheem, if they stood alone. There are apparently plenty of other players whom Rheem had swindled though. Many of these guys stepped forth when they saw Molson’s story posted, to share their own Chino tales.

To be continued…
