The Online Poker Weekend – Dan Smith Biggest Winner

This weekend, the biggest tournament winner turned out to be a high-profile pro at the online poker tables. Dan Smith was the one who took home the biggest haul, having won the biggest Sunday major: PokerStars’ Sunday Million. Not only did Smith win the event, he drove a hard bargain too towards the final stages of the event, when he actually managed to secure the chance to take down more money than first place would’ve guaranteed him without a deal. Down to the last 5 players and with Smith holding slightly more than half of all chips in play, the action was stopped so the survivors could attempt to iron out a deal. They did indeed reach an agreement, one that proved extremely advantageous for Smith, to whom it guaranteed about $12k less than the max first place money. He still stood to win $20k though by playing down to the finish line, which he did indeed do, thus ending up with a prize of $219.5k, about 7.7k more than what he would’ve won without the deal.

The second place man, yurabond walked away with just $85k, while third and fourth place finishers Karger222 and tulipaner both managed to finish with 6-figure prizes.
Even 5th place finisher AMELPADRINO got more out of the deal than yurabond, taking home $89.9k, so it was pretty obvious who the big loser of the deal was.
Another notable who finished high in the event was Pratyush Buddiga, who finished 9th for $10.9k.

The Sunday Warm-Up generated a 6-figure winner as well: Zsolt Vasvenszki was the one who rose to the top in that event, pocketing $108k for his efforts, without a deal in place to distort the pay-outs. There weren’t any other 6-figure tournament winners over the weekend.
