The Sunday Million,
PokerStars’ flagship weekend guarantee, is generally the scene of bitter rivalry weekend after weekend. It isn’t often that deals are struck among the top finishers, and when there are such deals, they’re usually 2-3-way ones. This Sunday, that mold was broken: no fewer than 6 players agreed to a deal, which made all six of them 6-figure winners. It was due to the deal that the eventual winner of the
poker tournament, Gerardo Rodriguez, didn’t become the biggest winner of the weekend. He ended up with a $108k share of the prize-pool, while second place man 2fingerz 2u, walked away with $113.7k.
Interestingly enough, the biggest winner of the tournament was the player who finished 6th (the first to bust out after the deal). pengebingen had a $117.1k payday. The player who finished 4th, NinziAkaPaxi had a good payday as well: he ended up with a $116.6k share.
The event saw 7,169 players register, creating a prize-pool of $1.43 million, well above and beyond the $1 million guarantee.
Notable finishes were those of Jono Crute, who ended up in 15th place for a little over $5k, and Morten Mortensen, who finished 36th, grabbing $2.9k for his efforts.
As usual, the Sunday Warm-Up was the second largest event of the weekend. 3,284 players showed up for this one, going to battle over a $656.8k prize-pool. There was a deal at the top of this tournament too, a 3-way one, which made sure that there wouldn’t be any 6-figure winners. The eventual winner was Chris Lovett, who was rewarded with $95.6k for his efforts. The runner-up was Elmagico19A1, who walked away with a $65.1k haul.
The Sunday 500 offered a prize-pool of $412k. Flavio Reis won the event, for a $74.1k prize.
