With the WCOOP all wrapped up and out of the way, things returned to normal this weekend as far as the major guarantees were concerned at
PokerStars. The Sunday Million was on, in all its glory, together with the Sunday Warm-Up. The biggest winner of the weekend was Jason Helder, the winner of the Sunday Million, who took home $201.9k for his efforts. Helder made no deals on his way to the top, taking home every single cent initially meant for the winner. He bested a player known as ‘parrish09’ heads-up. The runner-up collected $149.3k while the third place man scored a $106.2k haul. No other players finished in 6 figures.
A total of 6,639 players bellied up to the tables at the beginning of the day, creating a prize-pool of $1.32 million. The interesting thing about Helder’s performance was that he had entered the final table with only 15 BBs to his name. Even when the heads-up stage of the event was reached, Helder was still struggling with a major chip handicap.
Other notables who managed deep runs in the Sunday Million were Phil Shaw and Janos Toth.
The Sunday Warm-Up saw 3,312 players belly up to its tables. The prize-pool shot clearly past the $500k guarantee, stopping at $662.4k.
Unlike the Sunday Million, this event saw a 3-way deal at its top. The eventual winner was ‘_slowb0y_1’, who collected $87.7k for his efforts. Ben Jenkins was the one who lost the heads-up bout and finished second for a $71k reward. Thanks to the terms of the deal, 3rd place finisher Nicky Evans ended up with a $77.3k haul. Nobody took home a 6-figure prize in this event.
Notable finishers were David Ivers (who finished 14th) and Geoff Rasmussen who ended up in 17th.
The winner of the Sunday 500 was Rehabilitate, who took home $72.6k for his efforts. No one else managed to climb over $100k in any of the other weekend majors.
