The latest edition of the WCOOP was one that ruined the cash games all across the board last week, as players seemed to solely focus on the tournament action at PokerStars. Indeed, the start of the WCOOP Main Event was the most important spot of the weekend, and – as usual – it did not disappoint in any way. Some 2,142 players bellied up to the tables, creating a prize-pool of $10.7 million. What these impressive numbers mean is that at the end of it all, one lucky winner will be $1.82 million richer.
When the action was put on hold on Sunday night, only 271 players were left standing, including a whole bunch of “name” pros, like
Full Tilt Poker’s own Viktor Blom, Isaac Baron, Darren Elias, Justin Bonomo, Andre Akkari and Jake Cody.
The one leading all survivors into Day 2 is “Viking8844” from Israel. He finished the day with a stack of 613.9k chips.
Sign up to
PokerStars and take part in their Sunday Majors: there’s an insane amount of value in these tournaments.
With 270 players getting paid in the event, it’s safe to say it was stopped right on the money-bubble.
While all the above mentioned pros can only hope that they’ll make it far in the Main Event, for Paul Volpe, the joy of victory is already certainty. Volpe won event #63 of the Series, pocketing his first ever WCOOP title, together with a $66.4k prize. Volpe survived a star-studded final table, which included players like Taylor Paur, Huck Seed and Elior Sion. The relatively small size of Volpe’s cash haul is due to the fact that he made a heads-up deal with eventual runner-up “nilsef”, effectively chopping the remaining money down the middle, Sion finished 3rd for $41.5k.
