The first online poker weekend of 2014 is in the books and the Sunday Majors once again delivered in their usual way across the board. The biggest tournament winner of the weekend came once again from
PokerStars’ Sunday Million as scores of pros made deep runs in the various other events.
The Sunday Million, long the flagship weekend major of the
online poker industry, saw 8,666 players belly up to the tables. The $1 million guarantee was obviously put to shame yet again: the resulting prize-pool was a $1.73 million whooper, leaving plenty of money for the top 3 finishers to wheel and deal over.
Indeed, the top 3 players struck a deal, which left the eventual winner, “TroopTroop1” with a $234k prize. Alexandru Papazian finished second for $176.5k, while the 3rd place man was Nelisschuif7, who took home $160.6k. None of the other participants reached 6 figures prize-wise.
Besides Papazian, the highest-finishing notable was Andrey Pateychuk, who took home $9.1k for his 12th place.
The Sunday Warm-Up drew a starting field of 3,633 players. The resulting prize-pool was $726.6k, well above and beyond the $500k guarantee. Unlike in the Sunday Million, there were no deals at the top in this one. That allowed the winner, “heytie”, to walk away with a 6-figure prize. The winner’s share of the money was $114k. The runner-up was “FOO-92” who was rewarded with $85k.
Joe Ebanks was the highest finishing notable: his 7th place was worth $16.3k.
Over at
Full Tilt Poker, the $250k guaranteed managed to surpass its initial guarantee as well. The 1,412 players combined buy-ins to create a prize-pool of $282.4k. The winner, BILLGATESTILTIN, took home $56.4k.
Ben Skender was the winner of the Sunday Brawl, while Athanasios Polychronopoulos won the Sunday Second Chance $175 Gtd. for a prize of $46k.
Full Tilt Poker has always been THE place for online cash game action. While the site is focused on high-stakes action, the low-stakes tables are great too.
