Last weekend carried special significance for
online poker players: the 23rd edition of
Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS came to an end with the Main Event playing down to its winner. No fewer than 3,327 players coughed up the $635 buy-in for the tournament, generating a prize-pool of $1,996,200. Rayan Nathan was the highest finishing notable in the event. He finished 4th and his elimination triggered bargaining among the remaining three players, who eventually struck a deal. Thus, the biggest winner became DiaperSniper14, who picked up $301.1k for his second place. The eventual winner, Itahaschi, only took home $270k for the second largest haul. MarkusG finished 3rd, for a $234.5k prize. Even though he failed to take home the most money from the tables, Itahaschi was the one who took down the bragging rights and the winner’s FTOPS jersey.
The FTOPS Main Event wasn’t the only tournament to offer a $1 million guarantee. Event #35 also offered a similarly generous guarantee and it ended up awarding more than $1.19 million. There was a deal in this event too, and eventually, it was Toby Lewis who came away with the win, pocketing a $253k prize.
The runner-up, the player with whom Lewis had struck a heads-up deal, was Clark Hamagami, who finished with $223.1k.
Another notable who made the top 10 in this event was Emil Patel, who finished 9th for $22.7k. Jude Ainsworth and Faraz Jaka made deep runs in this event too.
PokerStars’ Sunday Million yet again easily covered its $1 million guarantee. In fact, the resulting prize-pool was $1,491,600. The winner of this event was smk2113, who took home $165.9k after a 4-way deal at the top. The highest-finishing pro was Adam Sherman, who ended up in second place, picking up a $150.3k reward.
