According to a site specialized in online poker traffic-tracking, 888poker has overtaken Full Tilt Poker as the second largest online poker operation in existence.
Full Tilt Poker’s traffic woes were obviously a part of the equation as well, but specialists agree that 888poker’s superb year was the factor that pushed them ahead of Full Tilt in the end.
2013 saw 888poker embark on a brand new marketing campaign, featuring top-notch music. During the year, they also upgraded their mobile capabilities and they added their own version of fast-folding poker to the game selection. Of course, 888 have also broken into the US market, providing software platform to several online poker operators in Nevada and New Jersey.
In addition to all the above said,
888poker were also the main TV sponsors of the World Series of Poker Asia Pacific and in recognition of their accomplishments, they picked up the eGR’s Poker Operator of the Year award.
888poker officials seem to believe though that the single factor that gave them the nudge into second place was their currently ongoing Winter Bonus Boom, which is a promotion based on customized bonus challenges.
In other news: poker pro Max Lykov is leaving Russia for greener pastures. Apparently, the recent political shifts in his home country haven’t exactly been to his liking, so he’s packing up and moving to Latvia, his wife’s home-country. Riga may only be a mere stop rather than a destination for him though: he’s apparently looking to eventually set up shop in Amsterdam or Berlin.
Lykov is a Team PokerStars professional, who has some $3 million in career tournament profits, and he is obviously no stranger to travel. He had stints living abroad in Thailand and in Europe, so the move he’s about to take is by no means uncharted territory for him.
