The Poker Grapevine – Betfair Hacked

Online poker-related scandals seem to follow in quick succession these days: the other day, online poker and gambling giant Betfair has announced that 18 months ago, several of its servers had been hacked and a tremendous amount of data had been stolen.

The hackers were said to be from Cambodia, and they were apparently quite successful: they stole millions of usernames and their security question/answer combinations. Also, they got their hand on several million user names with addresses attached to them and several thousand ones that came with bank account details. The servers that had their security breached were located in the UK and in Malta.
According to Betfair, all the data has been recovered. The stolen data could not be used for fraud anyway.

In other news: PokerStars have announced their 2012 PCA schedule. The Series will take place in the middle of the winter (at least on the Northern Hemisphere), kicking off on January 5 and wrapping up on January 14. The Main Event runs from January 7 all the way to January 13. There will be plenty of events to be excited about this time around too. There will be an 8-game championship event to which the buy-in will cost $5k. The prizes will obviously be equally generous. A Dealer Button Choice tournament and a Battleship event will round up the picture. Those looking for some serious high stakes action will be thrilled to cough up the $100k buy-in for the Super High Roller event. That won’t be the only high rolling opportunity though. The $25k High Roller event will be back on the schedule.
The pros are already sharpening their claws in anticipation of the large prize-pools. Daniel Negreanu said he had never missed a PCA, and he wasn’t going to miss the 2012 edition either. According to Eugene Katchalov, over the years, the PCA has become a must-play series for just about every serious poker pro out there.
