The Poker Grapevine – Blom Puts in Another SuperStar Showdown Round

It only took about 5 days for PokerStars pro Viktor Blom to regroup after he lost the second SuperStar Showdown match he had against Isaac Haxton. To add insult to injury, Haxton bounced back from a massive handicap, defeating the Swede yet again. Soon after, Blom took his frustrations out on Alex Millar. Millar, a player mostly known only in the high stakes poker circles, accepted the challenge but at the end of it all he probably wished he hadn’t. After 2.5k hands of $100/$200 PLO, Blom was $37.6k in the black. The biggest pot of the bout was a $100.9k monster, which – needless to say – ended up in Blom’s possession after he made a bottom pair against a daring bluff of Millar’s. The pot gave the Swede the lead for good. Thus far, Blom is 9-4 in his SuperStar Showdown series. 2 of those losses were inflicted by Haxton, one by Negreanu and another one by Scott Palmer. Both Palmer and Negreanu lost lots more than they won though in the two-match mini-series they had against Blom, thus Haxton is the only player who’s ever managed to actually take money from Blom.
Blom’s SuperStar Showdown profits after the above said Millar outing are now at $534,090.

In other news: last year, we’ve told you about the charity work that PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu was involved in with the Three Square foundation. This year, Negreanu has taken charity work one step further: on Friday, four lucky $1k donors got to dine at the Café Martorano at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, on Negreanu, and they even got a free poker lesson courtesy of the PokerStars pro. The donations went to the Three Square foundation’s Fight Holiday Hunger Campaign.
Antonio Esfandiari has also done his share of charity work last week. He managed to raise $10k in donations for the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a sum which he matched out of his own pockets.
