Bodog have been off the radar for a while. According to the latest news regarding the operation, the site pulled out of the US and European markets for good and decided to focus all its efforts on the emerging Asian market.
Whether the move was a successful one in terms of player volume and revenue isn’t currently known, but one thing is certain: Bodog are not about to completely part with the European market.
They have recently announced their Anonymous Poker Series, an event meant to take on a truly monumental size by spanning the entire next year. The culmination of the Series will take the qualifying players to Bodog’s new roaming grounds: Manila, where they will take part in a $100k buy-in event. Qualifiers will be offered to players in the Asian and the European markets, and the qualifying efforts will include
online poker operators as well as live venues. A selection of specially invited poker celebrities shall also be added to the starting field of the Grand Final which is scheduled to take place in January 2014.
According to Jonas Odman, the Bodog Poker Network’s managing director, the anonymous nature of the entire Series will level the playing field. Odman also said that the anonymous model was a great fit for the Asian poker market, where players generally tended to pick online poker operators based solely on trust. Bodog’s new anonymous approach is meant to position the BPN in a category with live dealer casinos, which are usually viewed in a much more favorable light in Asia than RNG based operators.
In other news: PokerStars are apparently bent on securing as sturdy a land-based presence as possible these days. Among rumors of an Atlantic City acquisition, the site began building a poker room in Madrid, Spain.
