The Poker Grapevine – Brunson’s Trip to London

Doyle Brunson’s presence at the EPT’s London stop was a surprise for many. Tex Dolly had previously said that he was looking to cut back on traveling, in order to spare himself the wear and tear that inevitably accompanies such activity. Doyle played well in the event, although he failed to make it deep. He scored his first ever
EPT cash though, finishing 77th and pocketing $14k for his efforts. When bounced, he left the table amid applause from the remaining field.
The living legend also plans to fly to Cannes, France, in order to play in his first ever WSOPE event. This trip may well be Doyle’s last of this magnitude though. By winning a bracelet in Cannes, he could theoretically equal Phil Hellmuth’s 11 WSOP bracelet record.
In other news:
PokerStars’ Lex Veldhuis and Bertrand Grospellier seem to finally have set a date for their long-anticipated kickboxing match. The idea of the bout has been floated years ago, and the interest that it first generated has waned a lot since. The confrontation is apparently set for November 22 and it’s rumored to be a 3-round match, with actual judges watching and deciding a winner in case a knockout doesn’t happen. The match will apparently be filmed as well so the poker community will probably get a chance to watch too. Exactly which of the two guys can be considered the favorite is hard to tell, but if their kickboxing skills are at least half as good as their poker ones, the match-up shouldn’t be a boring one.
In still other news: the
2011 WSOP Hall of Fame nominees were announced the other day, and as always, the list raised quite a bit of controversy. Annie Duke, Jennifer Harman, Barry Greenstein, Huckleberry Seed, John Juanda, Marcel Luske, Scotty Nguyen, Linda Johnson, Tom McEvoy and Jack McClelland are on the list.
The final decision on who will be inducted will be made by a panel consisting of 18 Living Hall of Fame members and a 17-member media panel.
