The Poker Grapevine – Daniel Cates Dominates PartyPoker’s Big Game

Even though the poker world seems to be taking a bit of a break these days - something quite normal for the peak of the vacation-season - there are players out there duking it out with their fellow high profile poker pros in one of the best vacation spots of the Mediterranean: Cyprus.
PartyPoker’s Big Game has managed to attract quite a select crowd to the Merit Cyprus Casino, and the $25/$50 cash game has turned into quite an entertaining affair indeed. Roger Hairabedian was one of the players producing his fair share of entertaining moments, but relatively unknown players Robert Peltekci and Dmitry Blinov have contributed quite a bit to this aspect of the event as well.
While Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi has been on the losing end, players like Sam Trickett, Dominik Nitsche and Daniel Cates have been doing extremely well.
Cates has in fact has pretty much stolen the show and he has been getting the bulk of the votes coming in every couple of hours, with the goal of keeping players in the game.
Another pleasant surprise produced by the Big Game was Kelly Kim of November Nine fame, who turned out to be quite an outstanding poker commentator.
In other news: a poker player by the name of Scott Neuman is apparently in possession of the chip bags used by Ivan Demidov and Peter Eastgate at the 2008
WSOP Main Event final table, and he is trying to sell them for the astonishing sum of $15k. Are these bags really worth that much? Not by a long-shot. What Neuman is basically attempting to do is to get staked and to that end, he’s offering the eventual buyer of the bags a rather peculiar bonus: if he plays and cashes in the WSOP, he will give the lucky guy a bonus which is up to him (to Neuman of course).
