The poker grapevine – Daniel Negreanu to play in the SuperStar Showdown

Daniel Negreanu has been spending time at the online poker tables again lately in preparation for his bout with Isildur1. That’s right. PokerStars’ most popular in-house pro will take on the site’s best online poker player in the 5th round of the SuperStar Challenge. If the confrontation were to take place at the live tables, it would probably be a no contest, with Negreanu being the obvious favorite. Online however, things may well turn out to be the other way around, as Blom is definitely one of the best online players. The match-up will also represent a clash of two generations: the online poker generation and the last of the great live poker showmen.
The match-up will kick off on March 20, at 15:00 EET. The rules of the game are the same as for the first 4 rounds of the challenge. Negreanu said he was excited to go up against the best player out there and that he would probably learn a lot from the encounter.

In other news: just as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie vetoed his state’s online poker bill, and as Florida. Iowa and California are also contemplating the possibility of state-level legal online poker, a similar bill has been introduced by Nevada as well. House majority whip William Horne was the one responsible for the introduction of the bill, which, in its drafted form, would allow players from other jurisdictions to play on the licensed sites as well.

In another corner of the world, in Cyprus, legislators are getting ready to deal online poker and gambling a blow. The bill introduced in this sense would carry rather radical punishments for those who engage in online gambling and poker. Lottery and sports betting would remain legal though. The bill has not yet been approved, but in case it will be it will spell pandemonium for the multitude of online poker and online gambling businesses which took up residence on the island.
