The Poker Grapevine – Daniel Negreanu’s Charity Push

PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu has long been an active supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, organizing various charity drives to raise funds. His latest such initiative was aimed at raising $100k in seven days. In order to accomplish the feat, Negreanu has set up a donations page and he urged people he knew to contribute. According to the terms spelled out on his page, for every $2.5k in donations, 4 people would be selected at random to have a dinner with Negreanu in Las Vegas. A poker lesson would follow and then an evening with the
PokerStars pro at his newly renovated home.
Negreanu also pledged to match every donation, up to a maximum of $50k. To say that his funds-raising drive was a success would probably be an understatement at this point: there are already $158k accumulated in donations and he has maxed out his match-ceiling as well. Dan Shak alone contributed $25k, and there were other similarly generous donors as well. At the end of the day, most of the money did in fact come from the pockets of the
poker community. Phil Ivey and Brian Hastings contributed as well, together with Kara Scott and Maria Ho.
While the target of the drive has indeed been met already, further donations are still welcome.
In other news: After Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Hellmuth, Phil Laak and Tony G have also confirmed their participation in PartyPoker’s Premier League VI. Tony G is a
PartyPoker representative, so his presence at the tables is by no means a stretch. Other players who will apparently take part in the Premier League VI hostilities are Daniel Negreanu and Scott Seiver, the winner of the last year’s edition.
The only newcomer to the 16-player lineup is Esfandiari.
