The poker grapevine – Dikshit sentenced, Isildur1 back in the L column

Poker news outlets were abuzz last week with word of PartyPoker founder Anurag Dikshit’s trial which eventually resulted in the Indian national’s sentencing to a year’s probation instead of the two years in jail he was facing for having been found guilty of breaking the Federal Wire Act. Dikshit himself had pleaded guilty and agreed to strike a plea bargain, leaving $300 million on the table for US authorities. With all that, Dikshit, who is not a US citizen, came extremely close to being locked away for two years for his PartyGaming activities that preceded the 2006 UIGEA. To date, Dikshit is the only person sentenced for having broken the provisions of the Federal Wire Act through online poker related activities, an ancient law which is at least as hazy about online poker and online gambling as the UIGEA itself.
Dikshit’s partners at PartyGaming, Russell DeLeon and Ruth Parasol DeLeon, both US citizens, have never even been charged. They may still have to relinquish their positions at the company though, if their presence in a leadership position will imperil the chances of the company to obtain a US license, in case online poker is ever legalized and regulated in the US.

In other news: PokerStars’new in-house professional, Swedish mystery player Isildur1 hasn't really managed to kick his losing habits. After shooting out of the gates, the Swede has embarked on a long losing streak, and now apparently not even the fact that he dropped down the stakes managed to stop the bleeding. Word has it that after dropping $300,000 to Phil Galfond, the Swede has reared his head at tables featuring stakes much lower than his usual ones. He is obviously in a bankroll rebuilding mode, but so far he hasn't really managed to recover any of his losses. According to railbirds, he is about $96,000 under the red line since he first donned the PokerStars patch.
