The poker grapevine: FTOPS XVIII gets rolling

The 2010 WSOP’s final table hogged all the lime-light this past week as far as tournament poker was concerned, but there were other things cooking in the background as well. Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS got rolling again, this time with its XVIIIth edition. The series got going on Wednesday and the $200 starting event was hosted by none other than 2010 WSOP Main Event second place man John Racener. 4,500 players bought into the event, shooting well past the $800k guarantee. Up top, with only 3 players remaining in contention, a deal was made. Sir29 was the top beneficiary of that deal, and although he ended up in 3rd place eventually, he was the one who picked up the lion’s share of the action. The win, together with the gold jersey, ended up in Pageh656’s possession. The winner picked up a handsome $117k for his efforts.

The FTOPS’ XVIIIth edition will feature 34 poker tournaments, and it will award prizes worth a total of $19 million.
Racener won’t go down as the only November Niner to have hosted a FTOPS XVIII event. Soi Nguyen, John Dolan, Filippo Candio and Mathew Jarvis will also take on the role of the host for various events.

In other news: Chilipoker, currently an iPoker member (and as such, not accepting US players) has recently announced that it had plans for launching a subscription-based online poker service in the US. This obviously represents a move on the part of the gaming group to expand into a new market. Alexander Dreyfus, the CEO of the company, said he hoped the move would be a motor for the future growth of the brand, while providing an alternative for those players who live in jurisdictions where online poker is restricted.
