The Poker Grapevine – Greenstein Ready to Pay Up

During the Groupe Bernard Tapie – Full Tilt Poker – DoJ negotiations, it has become clear that in addition to all the other problems plaguing the operation, Full Tilt had some monies lent to some of its pros, among them Barry Greenstein. The poker pro debt issue may have been one of the factors on account of which GBT eventually backed out of the deal.

Following the announcement regarding PokerStars’ acquisition of Full Tilt Poker, the issue of pro debts has re-emerged. Barry Greenstein, who owes around $400k himself was the first – and thus far only – player to speak out. Greenstein said that he had always intended to pay the money back, but before the pending issue of the Full Tilt ownership was solved, there wasn’t anyone he could pay to. Greenstein also said he was curious to see whether the new owners would contact any of the other indebted players in regards to the pending funds. Greenstein made his point of view public through one of the popular online poker forums.
Other players known to have loaned money from Full Tilt are Phil Ivey, Mike Matusow, David Benyamine and Erick Lindgren. The players are rumored to owe a combined $18 million. The exact amounts owed have not been made public, however it is said that Ray Bitar has in fact handed over a spreadsheet to PokerStars detailing the player debts.

In other news: with most of the major live poker events out of the way for the summer, players are already looking ahead to fall events like the Prague Poker Festival, the schedule of which has recently been made public.
The Series kicks off on November 27 with the €2.2k World SNG Masters. There will be all sorts of events including a High Rollers one, with a buy-in of €20k. The Main Event starts on December 12 and it features a buy-in of €1.1k.
