The Poker Grapevine – Greg Raymer Thrives in the HPT

Ever since he got dropped from/got out of the PokerStars fold, Greg Raymer hasn’t really made any waves in any major live events. He appears to have found his comfort-zone though, which is the Heartland Poker Tour, where he won an event the other day, in addition to an earlier HPT win of his. His more recent win came in the HPT’s Missouri Main Event, in which he took home a prize of $121k. The event took place in St. Louis and it came less than three months after his first HPT win of the year, the one in the Albuquerque Main Event.
Raymer’s accomplishment was by no means one to scoff at. On his way to the top of the pops, he survived an initial starting field of 336 players. There were quite a few big names in the field too. Dennis Phillips fell on the final table bubble, while Shawn Roberts managed to reach 4th place before biting the dust.
The St Louis win crowned Raymer the second man ever to win two titles in the same HPT season. The first player to accomplish the feat was Jeremy Dresch, who managed to win two consecutive HPT events back in 2009.
In other news: a couple of days ago, we told you about Daniel Negreanu who launched a challenge accepting wagers on whether or not he would be able to break into the top 20 of the GPI index by the start of the next edition of the
WSOP. The
PokerStars pro is currently in 31st place on the said list.
Tony G heard about Negreanu’s proposal and he began offering lines on the bet, quoting Negreanu with 2-1 odds for making the top 20 and laying 6-1 odds for his making the top 10.
In still other news: the EPT has acquired a new sponsor. PaySafeCard will be the official payment provider of the 9th season of the Tour.
