The Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) may be the biggest poker tour most of the online and live poker players outside of the US have never heard about. The Heartland Poker Tour has been airing its final tables to more than 100 million US households since 2005 and it has managed to attract some of the biggest names in live poker to do its pro tips segment.
PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu had worked for them, as had WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer, before the latest celebrity to hit the show, Phil Hellmuth, joined.
Hellmuth will be the host of the above said segment for season VIII of the series. The nationally syndicated poker show will be broadcast by 250 television stations across the whole of North America. The TV broadcast isn’t the only insight one can gain into the workings of the poker tour. Whole episodes are now available on demand at no charge whatsoever, which means that those interested can pretty much watch the entire seventh season.
In other news: in the wake of the new stance adopted by the DoJ regarding the legal status of
online poker and gambling, various US states have been considering the expansion of their gambling-related laws. Ohio for instance is currently considering a sweeping bill on the matter, which – if passed – would make it possible for individual counties within the state to launch charity poker rooms. One condition for the bill to be passed seems to be the requirement that the new charity poker operations shouldn’t cut into the profits of the 4 new Ohio-based casinos.
Minnesota is considering an expansion of its own gambling laws by increasing the maximum number of tables hosted by its racetracks from 50 to 80. The betting limits would also be increased. From a maximum of $60, the limit would go up to $100, no doubt attracting many more interested in the bigger pots that are likely to develop. The number of tournaments hosted by the Running Aces Harness Park and Canterbury Park would be unlimited.
