The poker grapevine – Isildur1’s winning spree

Those who were rooting for Viktor Blom aka Isildur1 to fail as an in-house
PokerStars pro will probably be disappointed to learn that despite all his January losses, the no-longer-mystery Swede managed to rebound nicely. During the last week of January, he dropped around $110k, to close the first month of 2011 on a negative note. In the wake of that not-so-good run, he took on Daniel Cates in the third leg of his SuperStar Showdown and won. That victory there must’ve given him wings as he returned to his regular tables not only to win his $110k back, but to add quite a bit to it, by logging a $640k run no less.
He doesn’t plan on relenting with his SuperStar Showdown either. Word has it that the next leg of the series will take place on February 13. Exactly whom Blom will play against though is not currently known.
The National Heads-up Poker Championship is still about a month away, but those who intend to acquire a prized invitation for the event are already busy jostling for position. There are apparently only two ways to get into the Championship: get invited or win a $25k seat. Since the first option is obviously not an open one for the majority of the poker world, playing for the seat is the obvious answer. No fewer than 217 players thought so too, and put their monies where their judgment was the other day, by coughing up the $230 buy-in at the live qualifier event held at Caesar’s palace.
The field has already played down to the final 16. All those left in contention have already made the money, but obviously, only the winner will go on to grab the $25k National Heads-Up Poker Championship seat.
In other news: the UBOC 6 has wrapped up the other day too, with Thiago Nishijima winning the Main Event for a $231,338 reward.
