The Poker Grapevine – Mercier’s Heater Ends

Jason Mercier has been on a quite incredible run for the last 5 years. Starting with 2008, he has managed to accumulate more than $1 million in profits each year. 2012 was a crucial year for him. Had he managed to sail past the $1 million mark again, he would’ve equaled Erick Lindgren’s record of 5 consecutive $1 million+ years. Unfortunately, the
PokerStars pro’s steam seems to have run out this year.
Uncharacteristically droughty in several areas of the globe, 2012 brought something of a drought for Jason Mercier too. The Frenchman fell far from the $1 million mark this time, but one should not fear for his material well-being: he still raked in some $523k.
Despite the apparently massive deficit, Mercier had actually come pretty close to making it several times. In the WPT’s Prague Main Event for instance, he was right there, almost making the final table. That
poker tournament featured a first-place prize of $413.6k, but Mercier only managed to take home $30k+ for his 12th place.
The
EPT’s Prague High Roller offered him another opportunity to make the $1 million threshold. The first place in that monster of a poker event was $477.4k, which would’ve been almost enough, but he fell short there too. Despite making another deep run, and making the final table this time around too, he ended up in 6th place, taking home $57.7k for his efforts.
During his 5-year run from 2004 to 2008, Lindgren accrued an impressive $6.2 million+ in profits. During his own run which now ended, Mercier averaged 1.8 million a year too, so had he kept up the pace, he would’ve blasted Lindgren’s record clean out of the water.
Although this year was certainly not his, Mercier is quite sure to make another go for it next year.
