The Poker Grapevine – Negreanu on Lederer

On Tuesday, the online poker world let out a collective roar of anger as ex-Full Tilt executive Howard Lederer, the businessman/player most consider guilty for Full Tilt Poker’s post-Black Friday meltdown, bought into the WPT’s $10k Festa al Lago main event. Lederer, who is currently facing the collective anger of the DoJ and the online poker public, is thought to have illegally acquired $42 million from the poker site, money, which players believe represented the account balances of unsuspecting players from all over the world. Anyway, Lederer didn’t exactly have a good time at the tables: he was continuously heckled and he dropped $20k on two buy-ins, before he called it the day and withdrew. PokerStars pro and online blogging heavy-weight Daniel Negreanu chimed in on the event, saying that he would never have believed Lederer would show up in an actual poker tournament playing against people he may well have robbed at Full Tilt.
According to Negreanu, it was one thing for Lederer to play in the Big Game, where he was surrounded by friends and supporters, and it was an entirely different matter for him to play in a public tournament. Negreanu hinted that he may have joined the choir of hecklers had he been playing in the Festa al Lago event himself.

In other news: the online gambling world has been rocked by yet another scandal this week, brought about by the arrests of Paul Sexton (ex-Full Tilt pro) and Steve Diano (a regular at the WSOP) on charges of money laundering, conspiracy and the illegal promotion of gambling. The two are looking at a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison if found guilty. The enterprise the two men worked for was World Wide Wagers.
