The Poker Grapevine – Negreanu Out of NBC Heads-Up

PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu has announced through a tweet that he wouldn’t take part in the NBC’s National Heads-up Poker Championship. He also specified that he loved and respected the event though, thus clearing any potential suspicion that the root of his withdrawal may be in some sort of row with the NBC management. He also said he would address the issue going into more details in a future video.
Negreanu’s withdrawal will certainly impact the perceived quality of the event in a negative way, and although the majority of the poker community is probably sorry to see him go, there are folks out there who rejoiced at the news. One such person is David Sands, who has been known to be pretty upset and vocal about not being included in the 64 who will play in the NBC Heads-up. With Negreanu gone from the line-up, Sands will apparently be the one to step up to the plate. He has already confirmed his participation and expressed his delight regarding the opportunity in a tweet of his own. So overjoyed was Sands to be included in the NBC Heads-up that he decided to offer up 1% of his winnings in the event to a random twitter follower of his.

In other news: Gus Hansen may not be one of the hottest online poker players, despite the fact that he doesn’t seem to spare any effort at the green felt. For years, he’s been headlining the losers’ list, but when it comes to picking up poker awards, few are as handy as the Great Dane. At the 2012 European Poker Awards, sponsored for the very first time by the GPI, Hansen picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award. Other players honored were Marvin Rettenmaier and Kara Scott.
