The Poker Grapevine – Nikolay Evdakov Dead at 47

Russian poker pro and WSOP cash-finish record holder Nikolay Evdakov has passed away at the age of 47. Evdakov’s wife, Nataliya posted the sad news in a Russian
online poker forum.
Evdakov still holds the record for the most cash finishes in a single WSOP edition. In 2008, he managed to grab money in no fewer than 10 events, brushing aside the previous record of 8 set by several players like Phil Hellmuth, Chad Brown, Humberto Brenes and Michael Binger. Evdakov was quite a regular presence in EPT events as well as in various other high buy-in live tournaments in Europe.
Viktor Blom has always been more of a reclusive kind, a feature which probably helped him quite a bit keeping Isildur1’s true identity under wraps for as long he did. The Swedish
PokerStars pro isn’t particularly talkative, therefore whenever he decides to open up about something, one had better pay attention. On Monday, Blom fired up a blog post detailing his 2012 PCA exploits. The 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure marked Blom’s first ever major live tournament success: he won the $100k Super High Roller, taking down the top prize of $1.2 million.
In his post, Blom says he didn’t feel particularly well after arriving to the PCA venue. Despite his woes, he strung together an excellent 2-day run for the Super High Roller. After the event, he apparently went to bed and he woke up feeling great the following day. Only then – says Blom – has the accomplishment begun to truly sink in.
In other news: registered sex offender Michael DeVita lost an Epic Poker League seat on account of his above mentioned status alone. The Nevada Gambling Control Board has ordered the Palms Casino Resort to pay DeVita $18.5k. The sum represents money owed to DeVita after he had his $1.5k buy-in to the qualifier in which he won the $20k seat, refunded.
The Palms has apparently not appealed the Nevada Gambling Control Board’s decision.
