The Poker Grapevine – PartyPoker Drops High Stakes Cash Games

PartyPoker have just made the announcement that they have removed all their ‘super high stakes’ cash game tables. Exactly what the move is meant to achieve is unclear, what is certain is that those looking to play higher than $10/$20 NL and PL and higher than $50/$100 Fixed Limit will no longer be able to do so at PartyPoker. According to a statement released by the site, the move is meant to serve the interests of the players, by improving the action. Exactly how it will indeed improve the action is something only PartyPoker insiders know, but it may have something to do with keeping players and their bankrolls around for longer. There are players out there who jump right into the highest available stakes only to go broke and leave for good. By restricting the size of the stakes, PartyPoker may theoretically be able to hang on to these people longer, while they too may indeed get a bigger bang for their dollars.

In other news: PokerStars’ MicroMillions II has officially entered its final stage. With 62 tournaments already in the books, there are just 38 more to go. The Main Event – which promises a guaranteed prize-pool of $1 million – is also ominously close. Over 807,000 players have taken part in the Series thus far, and over $4 million have been handed out in prize-money. PokerStars’ Andre Coimbra, on a quest to play in every single one of the MicroMillions Events, is still going strong having played in all 62 tournaments thus far and having cashed in 14 of them. His profits are not exactly impressive (he has made about $296.23 thus far) so let’s just hope he has some kind of a lucrative side-bet in place for this challenge, over which he’s certainly lost plenty of sleep already.
Over the past week, there weren’t any 5-figure winners, but two players came tantalizingly close, taking down $9.8k and $9.3k respectively.
