The Poker Grapevine – Phil Galfond on Fire

Last week was shaping up to be a pretty disastrous one for Phil Galfond, especially after he dropped some $630k at Full Tilt Poker’s tables. The skilled pro managed to turn a potential disaster into a victory-lap though on Saturday, when he did not simply erase all his previous losses, he managed to rack up some $660k in profits. Saturday was indeed a day Galfond will forever remember: he started it off by hitting the 2-7 Triple Draw tables, playing against Viktor Blom. Everyone knows Blom is a NL Holdem specialist, but this time his meltdown at Triple Draw was nastier and faster than anyone would’ve expected, everything considered. In a little over 20 minutes, he dropped around $142k to Galfond. Given the friendship between the two, one could even argue that the session was nothing but extremely efficient chip-dumping, but that of course doesn’t really make any sort of sense. Once on a roll, Galfond was quite impossible to stop at the Triple Draw tables. He took on Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey and patpatpanda, and he took money from each and every one of them for a total of $160k. Thus, his Saturday Triple Draw haul zoomed past the $300k mark.

Hungry for more, Galfond then returned to the tables and added another $185k to his tally for the day. All this came on the end of a $362k run on Thursday, thus he finished the week with a more than handsome profit after all. His latest exploits made him the biggest winner for the year, with about $1.8 million.
Viktor Blom on the other hand was still running cold: he dropped $238k on Friday and he followed it up with a $450 loss on Saturday, which he incurred at the FL Omaha Hi/Lo tables.
