The Poker Grapevine – Pros Gearing Up for the PCA

With the year slowly but surely winding down and with major live poker events ever scarcer on the horizon, the crème of the poker world has set its sights on the 2013
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The event, which is one of the
Season 9 EPT stops, will give players an opportunity to get away from the wrath of the Northern Hemisphere winter, while playing for some fabulous prize-pools and taking in the truly breath-taking scenery.
The 2013 PCA is set to kick off on January 5, giving poker pros an opportunity to begin the New Year on the right foot. For high-caliber pros, the high roller is obviously the greatest draw. The $100k buy-in event is already said to have secured 30 participants. Given that the record for the said event was set last year, when 38 players had couched up the buy-in, it is almost a given that this year will set a new record.
Many of the players who have already confirmed their participation are Team PokerStars Pro members. Daniel Negreanu will be there, together with Eugene Katchalov. Others who will join them are Jason Mercier, Bertrand Grospellier and Isaac Haxton.
Last year, the PCA’s Super High Roller was a truly memorable one. It was Viktor Blom’s first ever live poker tournament win. He ended up with the $1.25 million top prize after he disposed of Dan Shak heads-up.
Joining the PokerStars players will be Phil Hellmuth (always a colorful presence at the green felt), Tom Marchese and John Juanda. Scott Siever will also play, together with Jonathan Duhamel and Philipp Gruissem.
When it comes to $100k buy-ins, it’s quite obvious that those who pay that out deserve some extra perks. This year, the PCA Super High Roller participants will be able to spend $1k on drinks, food and limo services.
