The Poker Grapevine – Raymer Wins Yet another HPT Event

It was only a couple of weeks ago that we told you about the success that WSOP Main Event champion and ex-PokerStars pro Greg Raymer, known as the “Fossilman”, has found on the Heartland Poker Tour. We are now glad to break the news that since then, he’s scored yet another HPT victory. On Monday, the Fossilman bested a field of 185 players on his way to the top spot of the HPT event hosted by the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona, Iowa. He has already won twice this season: his first win came in New Mexico in July, at the Route 66 Casino Hotel. He took down his second title at the River City Casino, in St Louis, in September.

On Monday, Raymer’s heads-up opponent was Chad Lawson, an amateur player who was clearly overwhelmed by his much more experienced opponent. The two started out with relatively equal stacks, but Raymer managed to deliver a massive blow in the very first hand of the heads-up bout and he never looked back. The final hand of the event saw Raymer’s A,K best his opponent’s A,5o.
The runner-up picked up $41.7k for his efforts. The next event of the Tour will take place in New Mexico again, at the same casino where Raymer scored his first win of the season.

In other news: Dan Smith, the most recent winner of the Sunday Million is also the GPI Player of the Year leader, thanks to his outstanding 2012 tournament achievements. Smith has thus far won no fewer than six live poker events, taking down $3.6 million in prizes. His Sunday Million win was quite an achievement indeed. Although the $220k fell well short of his biggest 2012 cash, he bested a starting field of 7k+ players to get to it.
