The Poker Grapevine – Sam Grafton Wins GUKPT London Event

The 2012 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour’s London Main Event is in the books and the winner is British pro Sam Grafton, known in poker circles as “The Squid”. Grafton bested a starting field of 137 players on his way to the top. He was rewarded with a £102.7k prize for his efforts. The poker tournament, which was hosted by the famous London Victoria Casino, was by no means a walk in the park for any of the participants. It drew quite a selection of professional players, which included James Akenhead, Sam Razavi, Stuart Rutter, Neil Channing and Toby Lewis. Due to the high number of pros in the starting field, the configuration of the final table was an extremely difficult one: besides the eventual winner, Chris Brammer and Jon Spinks also made it to the final stretch of the event. Brammer didn’t represent a threat for long as he was the first player to bite the dust at the final table. He picked up £7.7k for his 9th place.

Jon Spinks on the other hand, fared a lot better: he made it all the way to 5th place, picking up a £22.2k prize.
The player who made it to the heads-up stage of the event with Grafton was Peter Charlambous. The final hand of the event saw Grafton’s As, 4s hit a spade flush on the turn against Charlambous’ pocket tens. The runner-up was rewarded with a £72.8k prize.
