The Poker Grapevine – Sam Trickett Assaulted

Sam Trickett may not have won the Big One for One Drop but he came pretty close, and when we’re talking about an event of the Big One’s caliber, coming close means a $10 million+ reward. Shortly after it became official that he was indeed the recipient of the fabulous prize, Trickett tweeted that he was going to celebrate by getting severely intoxicated. Things didn’t quite go as planned for him at the after party though. He was apparently assaulted outside a Las Vegas club by 6 men, who beat him up and spat in his girlfriend’s face. In subsequent tweets, Trickett has insisted that he did absolutely nothing to spark such a reaction from the assailants and that the reason behind the assault was nothing more than envy.

In other news: it is now clear that when it comes to online poker, PokerStars will settle for nothing short of absolute world domination. Brazil’s most prestigious poker tour, the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) has a new heavyweight sponsor and you’ve guessed it: it’s PokerStars.
PokerStars have already taken over the reins of the Series, overhauling its design and lending it a sleeker, more attractive look. The first event of the revamped Series kicks off on July 28 in Sao Paulo. According to team PokerStars pro Andre Akkari of Brazil, PokerStars’ move represents a stellar opportunity for the growth of poker in his country. The BSOP will cover a total of 6 locations, including Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte and Fortaleza.
According to BSOP CEO Igor Trafane, PokerStars’ backing will not only increase the tour’s popularity, it will also up the technical stakes at the table, with more skilled Brazilian players entering and with more high profile international competitors playing as well.

In still other news: after Shuffle Master dropped out of the Ongame deal, it now looks like Zynga may be interested in picking up the online poker network from bwin.party.
