The Poker Grapevine – Sam Trickett Comes Forth About Thievery

It appears that high profile online/live poker players aren’t more immune to petty theft than regular people. Various cases of theft/swindling have apparently been going on in the high stakes poker world for quite a while. PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu has been known to speak up against the practice some pros have allegedly grown so fond of, urging victims of such schemes to speak up and not keep mum, shunning the ‘don’t snitch culture’ that has apparently dominated the poker scene since who knows when.
Sam Trickett, the pro who stole a few headlines recently for his matchbook.com WSOP sponsorship, has come forth the other day, issuing a threat to an as yet unnamed pro who had allegedly stolen money from him.
Trickett has fired out a tweet in which he said that a well-know pro had stolen money from him and that he was going to expose him if he didn’t get a call from him soon. The tweet has fueled some wild speculations in online poker circles, but we obviously can’t add to them in this column.
In other news:
PokerStars have overhauled their VIP system to offer better value to their loyal, high-volume customers.
The new system introduces new reduction rates and slightly tweaked payout rates for FPPs. For instance, Bronze players can now exchange 1k FPPs for $10. In the past, they could only exchange 2.5k FPPs for $25.
Dutch players who have thus far used pokerstars.com as their online poker destination have been transferred to PokerStars.eu, to join the rest of the European players. The remaining EU nations are also scheduled to be transferred to the new domain soon.
Game selection and access to the various guaranteed tournaments remain unchanged on the new domain. What is the purpose of the switch then - one may ask. It’s meant to address issues linked to taxation. By using PokerStars.eu, EU based online poker players will no longer earn money from outside the block.
