Bobby’s Room has just gotten a new rival: the Ivey Room has opened the other day at Aria in the City Center, looking to attract high stakes maniacs to possibly rival the Big Game at Las Vegas’ best known nosebleed stakes poker spot, Bobby’s Room. There’s no word on whether or not the opening of the new poker room has had any impact on the action over at Bobby’s. It may well be that there’s plenty of room for two such venues in Sin City in which case the whole thing may well go down without any sort of drama.
In other poker news: the WPT’s Barcelona Main Event kicked off on the 19th, and the two day 1 flights yielded an unprecedented number of 326 registrants. That number was the biggest one the WPT’s Barcelona stop has ever seen. The buy-in to the Main Event was a massive €3,200, but only 36 players will walk away with anything to show for their efforts. 144 players survived the two day 1 flights, to return to the Casino Barcelona on Day 2. Dragan Galic, Leo Margets, Sorel Mizzi and Per Linde were all among the survivors. The player to emerge from the quagmire with the victory will take down a €315k prize.
The approach of the
WSOP means massive player presences in the various online poker qualifiers all over the internet. It means jostling for plane tickets, and getting those final arrangements sorted out before departure. It also means Brunson Beer Pong Invitational.
In a bid to find out who the hottest wielder of the ping pong paddle is in the poker world, Hogs and Heifers will have poker players and poker celebrities go up against one another at the ping-pong table. The lineup for the first round of the event includes names like Tiffany Michelle, Erick Lindgren, Chad Brown, Vanessa Rousso and Erica Schoenberg.
PokerStars is apparently never done chiseling and adding to its team of in-house professional players. Their newest Team PokerStars pro is a true celebrity in Europe. Juventus’ goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, 2006 World Champion with Italy’s national soccer team, has just joined the online poker site.
With the South African World Cup looming over the horizon, and with Buffon part of Italy’s team again, European PokerStars players will probably find it tempting to try to sneak one past him at the online poker tables.
