WPT Magazine is set to name the best online poker player, the best poker personality, the best international player, the best UK cardroom, the best international cardroom, the best British player, the best online poker forum and a few other such “bests” based on the public’s vote, so if you have a favorite in any of those categories, make sure you make your vote count. Voting is already open and it will stay that way till February 2011, so there’s still plenty of time.
888 Poker’s Leo Margets won
Full Tilt Poker’s Masters Series in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago, thus taking down what will probably go down as the last substantial live poker prize of the year. She took home €100k for her efforts, after besting 31 Spanish qualifiers. The event ran over 3 days covering a vast array of poker variants, which made Leo Marget’s performance even more impressive.
It has lately become trendy for players to auction off their
WSOP bracelets on eBay. After the setback suffered by 1991 WSOP Main Event winner Brad Daugherty though, many may reconsider. What exactly happened to Daugherty’s auction? If failed to meet the reserve, so the highest bidder, someone willing to cough up $30.1k for the WSOP memorabilia, was left high and dry and the jewelry remained with its rightful owner.
In other news: is the Gibraltar haven for online gaming companies about to close its gates? It certainly seems that way. Apparently, starting January 1st 2011, the 1% tax rate levied on online gambling and poker revenues up to €500k, will be subjected to a rather massive hike of 10%. Many company representatives believe however that even with the hike factored in, the tax will remain low enough to keep existing companies from moving, and even to attract new online gaming entities.
