The Poker Grapevine – WPT National Series in London

The WPT’s London stop didn’t turn out to be what some in the poker industry would’ve wanted it to be: it was downgraded to a National event, even though the EPT’s stop clearly showed that there was plenty of potential in it and it would even have provided extra players to the tally. Anyway, in the end the organizers went ahead with the National event concept.
The poker tournament drew a starting field of 218 players, each and every one of whom contributed £1,650 to the prize-pool. Reece Lewis was the winner of the tournament, and if you do not happen to know who Lewis is, don’t feel guilty: not many folks knew him before his WPT London win.
He pocketed the top prize of £80k and he defeated a couple of “name” pros at the final table. Kevin Williams and Carlo Citrone made the final stretch of the event as well.

In other news: PokerStars’ Super Tuesday has become the tournament of the regulars on account of its $1,050 buy-in. The event has enjoyed ever bigger popularity and over the last few weeks, it’s improved its own attendance record several times. Last week, 663 players bellied up to its tables, having created a prize-pool of $663k. A total of 81 places were paid, so there was plenty of value to go around indeed. Two players from the UK made the heads-up stage of the event: Charlie Combs and a player known by the online moniker “Pollopopeye”. The final hand of the tournament saw Combs’ A,10o go up against Pollopopeye’s pocket rockets. Needless to say, the rockets prevailed, and the winner picked up a $124.6k prize. The share of the runner-up was a handsome $90.8k. The top prize was the biggest one in the history of the event.
