PokerStars’ Danish pro Theo Jorgensen was shot three times in the leg by three unknown assailants who broke into his home in the Danish city of Greve in order to rob him. Although according the accounts provided by the Jorgensen family, the poker pro did not resist and he actually gave the robbers an unspecified amount of US dollars and Euros, one of the robbers, armed with a submachine gun, shot him three times in the leg, in front of his wife. It was Jorgensen’s wife who called the police too. The police combed the area with the aid of specially trained police dogs, but they have failed to lock on to a trail: the whereabouts and the identities of the three assailants are still unknown.
The Jorgensens have provided detailed descriptions of the attackers. The one who opened fire wounding the poker pro spoke English. Jorgensen’s injuries are not life threatening, so currently he’s safely recuperating in a Danish hospital.
According to a statement released by Jorgensen through his Facebook page, the robbers must’ve mistakenly thought that he kept large sums of cash at his home. Jorgensen has also made it clear that he had taken all necessary precautions to prevent such an incident from happening, including the installation of an alarm system, but his efforts had proven insufficient.
The Danish poker pro said that he would focus on recuperating and spending more time with his family, to make the trauma forgotten. What this probably means is that we won’t see much of him at the green felt or even online for a while, which – under the circumstances – is indeed perfectly understandable.
